The 2022 Senate race in Pennsylvania is already crowded. North Philadelphia State Representative Malcolm Kenyatta and Pennsylvania Lt. Governor John Fetterman announced their candidacies in February 2021, both staking claims as the progressive in the race.
Fetterman, who previously served as mayor of his western Pennsylvania town, made headlines throughout the 2020 election for taking on Republicans over voting access and COVID safety. Kenyatta is also known for his firebrand commentary.
Fetterman’s platform includes raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, legalizing marijuana, and protecting LGBTQ+ and reproductive rights. Kenyatta similarly emphasizes expanding and protecting voting access, criminal justice reform, and economic recovery from the pandemic.
